Trent Girls & Boys Through to National Indoor Hockey Finals

Sport

Our U18 Girls’ and U16 Boys’ Indoor Hockey teams are celebrating after securing their hard-fought for places in the National Championships.

On Sunday 2 December the Girls’ team successfully defeated RGS Worcester 5-1 to secure their spot at the National Finals in January. The Girls’ U16 team also made it through to the Midlands Regional Indoor Finals, securing the 4th spot in the region.

The Boys’ teams had a hard act to follow but on 9 December the U16s triumphed over Beauchamp College (2-1) in their Midlands Regional Semi–Final sending them through to the National Finals in London, with the U18s narrowly missing out on a Nationals place but securing the 3rd place in the Midlands.

Trent's Director of Sport, Richard Mahoney, said, ”We are absolutely delighted with the outcome from the Regional Indoor Hockey championships, to have two squads qualify for the National Championships is a real credit to the coaches and the players involved.

It is worth noting the foundations of this high level performance are built on the number of pupils we have taking part in sport and the top level support they receive from the coaching and teaching staff. The pupils are very excited by the prospect of a weekend challenging themselves against some of the best schools in the country, and we wish them the best of luck!”

This term we have had over 400 pupils represent the school in sporting fixtures, and our philosophy of Participation-Progression-Performance runs right through from Year 7 to 13. Saturdays at Trent regularly see over 300 pupils and 25 sports teams running out in our trademark blue and red.
