Year 8 and 9 students get enterprising on Activity Day

Extra Curricular

After a gruelling exam season and whilst enjoying one of the hottest June's on record, Trent's Year 8 and 9 students got to spend the day in our beautiful grounds on Tuesday (20 June) for a spot of outdoor education with an entrepreneurial twist!

The first half of the challenge day was ‘Trent Fest’ where students were set various challenges around marketing their own summer festival and the whole task was done from a campsite in the woods. Firstly, they were designing a marketing mix for the festival e.g. what pricing strategies were going to be used, what acts they were going to try and attract for their target market, how they were going to promote their festival, and designing a festival map.

In addition, the students played a business simulation game where teams went head to head. They were making pricing, production and promotional decisions and competing for who could make the highest profit by the final round. They also had fun designing festival ponchos with the staff using water pistols to test how functional they were!

In the second part of the day, students were trying their hand at a whole range of outdoor pursuit activities designed to move them out of their comfort zone. There was crate stacking up to dizzying heights, high ropes, platform climbing and a problem solving task where students could only win by working as a team.

They day really did require resilience, grit and determination to be successful - all qualities of a typical Trent student!
