The popular competition returned with a storm and the students endured three stages to make it to the regional final:
Stage 1: Class competition – all Year 7 who study languages participates in this stage.
Stage 2: All class winners learn 50 more words.
The three students who were then successful from Trent were tested again with random words from a 100 word list. Each pupil won their competition in their respective languages; German, French and Spanish.
Stage 3: The students had to learn another 50 words (total of 150 words) for the regional competition which was held at the Corby Business Centre.
Although the students didn’t qualify for the National Finals they did an amazing job to get to the Regional Finals. A total of 5650 students in the East Midlands alone entered the competition – so a big well done to them.
Mr Chris Kelly, Teacher of German and French comments: “This is the third year we have been involved in the Spelling Bee and the standard has become higher and higher. The students all achieved their personal bests in the competition too! They were a credit to the school and their attitude towards the competition was great and were gracious in defeat.”
