Trent pupils shine through with winning performances in Wales and Derbyshire

Sport

Congratulations to Harriet Evans (Year 12) who recently won both the Mid Wales Girls Open Championship and the Mid Wales Girls County Championship in Aberystwyth.

The conditions on the first round at the Borth & Ynyslas Golf Course were extremely tough with strong, cold winds, but Hattie was able to hold her game together to secure both titles. It is a great achievement for Hattie, who is also a Welsh International Golfer. Hattie also received the Meg Bowen Brooch for the best net score in the qualifying round with 81.

At the Derbyshire Schools Golf Championships, Max Hughes and Imogen Rafferty (both Year 8), Sam Potter (Year 9) and Harriet Evans (Year 12) all faced similar tough conditions in an unseasonably cold and breezy April day. The Championships allow for each pupils to compete in a range of individual events and the Team competition is then decided through an aggregate pupil score. Trent were tied in first place after the best three scores were taken, and Imogen Rafferty’s round tipped the balance in the school’s favour to secure the Schools Competition. Trent will now go on to represent Derbyshire at the English Schools Competition on July 6th at Woodhall Spa.

Max, shot an excellent round and won the Don Lamb Cup for the best gross score for a year 8 and under. Sam and Hattie finished up the leader board and have both been selected to represent Derbyshire in the Midlands Golf Finals in May.

We are proud of their achievements and wish them all well in the forthcoming competitions.
