This year, for the first time, we took Trent College musicians to the Derby Arts Festival at the start of the Trinity term. Performances at the festival are marked out of 100, and there are chances to win trophies. We were pleased with this first outing to the competition and especially happy to bring back Distinction certificates and a trophy!
Three Trent College pianists took part this year. Jacob Doleman’s performance of Grieg’s Alvedans in the class for piano solo (y10 and under) was commended, achieving a mark of 86. Alice Garner and Kieran O’Driscoll-Pabla, performing The Black Key Suite by Robert Vandall in the piano duet class (y8 and under), came second with a mark of 87. Emily Henderson also came second in the class for string solo (y8 and under). Her performance of a Haydn Andante gained 87 marks and a Distinction.
Saskia Redgate, Emily Henderson and Georgina Elder, the Trent College Piano Trio, performed an arrangement of the Londonderry Air in the class for small groups (y13 and under). They were awarded 88 marks, a Distinction.
Finally the eleven cellists of the Trent College Cello Ensemble played in the open class for large groups. Their performance of Three Sea Songs was also awarded a Distinction and 88 marks, winning them the Lesley Smart Trophy.
