Is reading all about books? Certainly not if you consider all the emails, blogs, websites, newspapers, magazines and other social media you read every day.
It’s all about the words.
Yesterday, for World Book Day, we welcomed Inja and Laurie, two performance poets and rappers who are all about words. They wowed Years 7, 8 & 9 with poems about family, grandparents and exploring life’s possibilities.
The biggest round of applause came when Inja made up a freestyle rap using 20 words provided by the audience.
Later in the morning two Year 9 classes were lucky enough to have a workshop with Inja & Laurie. “It was brilliant to see the students engaged with the Haiku Battle and creatively exploring feelings and emotions through words and poetry” comments Miss Scothern, Head of Library Services at Trent.
Lunchtime saw the library buzzing with people picking up a bargain at the book sale. Miss Scothern continues “We ran a book quiz with students and staff answering 20 questions on all things book related by taking part on their phones.”
Competition time ‘Guess the Shelfie’ Can You Guess Which Member of Staff Owns Which Bookshelf? Was also very successful with 19 entries from staff, photos are displayed in our Library foyer.
World Book Day is always a great opportunity to celebrate reading, books and words. So let’s try and keep the momentum and vow to read just a little more than we did before.
