Big Win At Doubles Tennis Tournament

Boys' Tennis

On Thursday 12th June two tennis teams set off from Trent to St. Olave's School in York to play in the U12 and U13 Doubles Tennis Tournament. The teams consisted of Year 7 boys; Thomas Connelley, Ned Smith, Alex Atkin and Henry Merton and Year 8 boys; Harry Finney, Jenson Rogers, Jonathan Hampshire and Kirill Ivanov.

Miss Charlie Salisbury head of tennis comments “The boys trained regularly in school, in addition to the training that they do outside of school. Final team selection was very difficult as there are so many strong tennis players here at Trent.”

“Both teams performed superbly well and were a credit to the school, both on and off the court. The U13 boys contested a number of very close matches, eventually losing narrowly to St. Olave’s in the final. Our U12 boys had a similar difficult route to the final but after incredible performances from all involved, they overcame their opposition to take the title and the trophy – well done boys!”

Thomas Connelley, part of the Year 7 winning team comments “The tournament was a team event with scores from both pairs added together to determine final results. Trent U12’s soared through the games straight into the final after finishing top of their group. The final was to be played on grass, which nobody had played on before, against the host school, St. Olave’s A team. It was a tough challenge but after some amazing diving shots, Trent ran out as victors winning 6-2, 6-5 (7-2 in the tie-break). It was a fantastic all round performance and Trent deserved the win. We are looking forward to defending the title next year.”
