Busy Hockey Period For Trent Pupils

Boys' Hockey

Trent pupils have had a successful Easter on the hockey front. Beeston Men’s 1st XI became National Champions for the second year running beating East Grinstead on penalties. The squad included Head of Hockey Mark Wadsley, OTs James Blackwell and Chris Proctor and current pupils Josh Pavis and Sam Apoola. Josh and Sam also made their international debuts over the Easter weekend.

Sam Apoola “I’ve been playing hockey for nearly 8 years now and have always wanted to represent my country and recently I got the chance to do this at the 4 Nations Tournament in Germany. It was a brilliant experience and I even managed to score on my debut! The experience I gained from training and playing with Beeston 1st XI gave me great confidence and I may not have been given this opportunity if I was not at Trent College.”

Two weeks earlier, Beeston U16s won the National Championships at Wakefield H.C. The team included 4 Trent pupils with Sam Apoola, Josh Pavis, Tom Hancock and Max Sowter playing crucial roles. Trent have over 30 pupils involved within Beeston H.C. junior teams which have all competed at indoor and outdoor national tournaments this season.

Head of Hockey, Mark Wadsley “It is a unique link between Beeston H.C. and Trent College and this year has been incredible. It is great to see so many Trent pupils develop through the season with the help of Beeston H.C. Both Sam and Josh have trained with the 1st XI squad and made their National League debuts towards the end of the season. Sam played in the Championship Finals and the experience really helped him before he went away with England U16s.”
