It has been a very successful hockey season at Trent. At the start of the term, the U16 boys travelled down to Whitgift School for the National Schools Indoor Finals. Playing some outstanding hockey, Trent eventually lost 2-1 at the semi-final stage having knock out the host’s Whitgift in the group stage. Following the indoor season, the U16s went on a winning streak outdoors losing just one school game. This resulted in them becoming Midlands Independent Schools League Winners for the second year running. At the Midland Finals the boys went unbeaten through the day beating Repton 3-2 in the final to become Midland Champions. Trent have now won this tournament 11 out of the last 14 years. The boys will now compete at the National Finals on Thursday 1st and Friday 2ND May at Cannock H.C.
A special mention must go to Sam Apoola (year 11) and Josh Pavis (year 10) who have both made the England U16 squad which play in the 4 Nations Tournament in Germany over Easter weekend.
The U14 boys have had a successful hockey term, again losing just one school fixture. At their Midland Finals, they started slowly but were in the end unfortunate to finished Runners Up. This result meant Trent qualified for a National Play Off Match on Tuesday. Trent convincingly beat Neston High School 7-0 to cement their place at the National Finals which take place on Tuesday 6th May.
Our U14 Girls team travelled to Cannock for their National Finals in late February. The girls fought hard winning the first game 1-0 against The Grammar School at Leeds, but following this they suffered narrow defeats to Cranleigh and Millfield. Despite this the girls finished a respectable 5th in the country.
The U13 boys had a good term and really benefitted from the unusually good weather this term showing real development. They reached the finals stage at the In2Hockey Midland Championships eventually finishing second to Bilton Grange. They now travel to their National Finals on Friday 9th May at Cannock H.C.
Mark Wadsley, Head of Hockey commented:
“It has been a fantastic two terms of hockey at Trent. We have reached an unprecedented 5 National Finals. It is also fantastic to see two players making the England U16 squad. We have a strong partnership with Beeston H.C. and working together is it clear to see the progression of our hockey players. We wish the U13, U14 and U16 teams the best of the luck at their National Finals at the start of next term.”
