On Monday 3rd February, a group of year 7 girls were chosen to go and meet an amazing writer, Cathy Cassidy, the author of the Chocolate box girl’s series and many others. Cathy gave the group an extremely interesting talk about herself and how daydreaming at school had led to some of her best ideas. They also managed to get the books signed as a lovely memory of the day. All the girls had a thoroughly enjoyable time and felt very privileged to meet such an inspiring author.
This year our Key Stage 3 classes have a fantastic opportunity to win a number of prizes simply by reading books from our library. The ‘Golden Ticket’ challenge is available to years 7, 8 and 9 and requires students to read from a list of books that the English department have provided in return for the chance at winning a fabulous prize. Michaelmas term saw 2 winners from each of the 3 year groups, well done to Tilly Shaw, Tom Connelly, Robyn Slater, Jack Li, Elliot Harvey and Yasmin Choudhary.
As many of you will know, we are approaching World Book Day on Thursday 6th March. We are very lucky to have 3 fabulous authors to visit and inspire the children of our school, Sara Grant, Katie Dale and Bryony Pearce. The group all write fiction for young adults and teenagers and are passionate about encouraging them to read more books. Although all of their books are different they are all gripping tales which tackle difficult subjects and should prove to be excellent reads for young adults. We look forward to welcoming Sara, Katie and Bryony to Trent College, it is sure to be an inspiring world book day for all!
