Last week the Daily Telegraph published school league tables for GCSE results. The data used in these tables was misleading as results at iGCSE, a more rigorous course, followed in several subjects by many independent schools were excluded. For Trent this meant that many students who had worked hard to achieve excellent results in Maths and Physics were inexplicably treated as if they had not studied the subjects.
Our pupils in fact especially excelled in the Science subjects, in particular Physics where 83% scored A* or A, while 62% achieved the same grades in Maths. Both subjects saw 98% A*-C pass rates.
Had these results been included the % of students attaining five or more GCSE/iGCSEs at A*-C including Maths and English would have been 96%. In addition the correct value for the average point score per student was 442.3. (The GCSE curriculum at Trent is highly flexible and allows students far more choice than the prescriptive demands of the English Baccalaureate).
The school is very proud of last year’s GCSE cohort who attained the best results ever and is disappointed the published tables diminish this achievement. The school’s full GCSE results from 2011 to 2013 are available here.
