Semi Final: Trent 1 -2 Bromsgrove
Over the past weekend, Trent took part in the Boys U16 Schools National Indoor Championships at Whitgift School. After finishing second in the Midlands Round the team knew they would be in a difficult group. This was the case with previous winners Exeter School and hosts Whitgift both in Trent’s group.
The team worked hard and played in some thrilling encounters noticeably holding Whitgift to a 1-1 draw and losing to eventual winners Exeter 4-3 having been winning 3-2 with one minute to play. This meant Trent had to beat QEGS Wakefield heavily and hope that goal difference would put them through to the semi-finals. Trent were in inspired form incredibly scoring 10 goals and eventually qualifying for the semi-finals by one goal.
The semi-final was a cagey affair with both teams giving the opposition respect. Trent created more chances than Bromsgrove but couldn’t convert. A last minute penalty stroke was well saved by the Bromsgrove goalkeeper sealing Trent’s fate.
Head of Hockey, Mark Wadsley said, “The boys played some fantastic indoor hockey scoring many exciting goals. The semi-final loss was upsetting for the boys as it was such a mature performance against an experienced indoor side. The most pleasing thing was that we played as a team with great work ethic and spirit throughout the tournament. This was pleasing especially considering we had boys from three different age groups with varying levels of indoor experience.”
