A talented student from Year 10 is celebrating this week after the results were announced of the Arvon Creative Writing Competition.
The winner, Finley Willits from Year 10, has won a place on the Arvon Creative Writing Residential which will take place this Easter.
Mrs Broderick, PSA judge, commented; ‘I had to read the entries over a few times before making the decision, they were all so good and they were all so different. I finally chose Finley’s piece as I could really visualise where he was coming from. He created quite a poignant message about life and living life – it just had the edge”
Finley, on how he came up with his story, said; “The topic was ‘Flight’ so that just got me thinking about aeroplanes, which bought the plot of my story to mind. Then it took some time to slowly develop it into the final piece”’
The second prize was awarded to Emma Kok in Year 12 with Highly Commended going to Emma Smart (Y12), Ellie Chesshire (Y12) and Jack Doddy (Y11). The judges commented that the standard was very high and they were most impressed by all of the different ideas the students had, as well as the skilful way they wrote them.
Head of Sixth Form, English Teacher and trip organiser Lucy Matthews commented; “We are very grateful for the continued support of the PSA in sponsoring this competition. The Creative Writing Residential run by Arvon gives students the opportunity to be creative as well as fostering confidence in their abilities. Students who have attended previous trips have described it as “a life changing experience” and we are delighted to be again taking a new crop of enthusiastic writers – led by Fin!”.
