Bronze Practice Expedition in the Peak District

Duke of Edinburgh (DofE)

The second half of the Bronze D of E group, with 43 pupils and 9 adult staff, travelled to Wetton in the Peak District to complete their practice expedition from Monday the 15th – Wednesday 17th April.

The weather had a spring-like feel about it, with generally dry conditions and some sunshine, which was a relief after the recent cold, snowy conditions. Over the three days, the Year 10 pupils put their training into practice, completing three treks and two nights camping. The focus was very much on safety in all activities and effective navigation when on the move.

The groups improved all these aspects over the course of the expedition, learning important lessons about taking care over route finding and with their equipment. They are now ready to tackle their Qualifying Expedition on Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th May, also in the Peak District.

Thanks as always must go to the staff and parent who volunteered to come out with the pupils in the holiday to help them complete the practice venture.
