Swim Star Awarded Young Sportsman of the Year


Congratulations to Oliver Davidson, awarded The Erewash Young Sportsman of the Year for the following array of achievements this year.

  • Age Group National Championships in 100 Freestyle and 100 Individual Medley Relay at Ponds Forge, Sheffield
  • Midland Age Group Championships, having qualified for all events
  • Won County (14 year old) Championships for third year with 10 Gold, 4 Silver and 2 Bronze medals and Under 16 County Cup for 200m Backstroke
  • Selected to attend the ASA England Talent Development Program;1 of only 21 places for 2012/2013
  • Awarded Full County Colours for representing Derbyshire in the Inter-county Galas

Oliver trains with Derventio eXcel, the Derbyshire performance squad, which has only 37 members and swims for Long Eaton Swimming Club. He trains 9 times a week, clocking up 20 hours and 60,000m in the pool.  This is mainly early mornings before school at 5.30 am to 7.30am.

Oliver was Invited to compete for Derbyshire at the National County Team Swimming Championships in Sheffield where he swam in the relay event and individual 100m Backstroke.  He was also awarded  his Full county Colours for his achievement. (Derbyshire only swim as a County once a year at the National Championships).

In November last year, he took part in the County 50m Sprint Championships and won 2 Gold, one Silver and one Bronze medal in the 4 available races.
