British Racing Driver Finds his Pole Position at Trent

Whole School Programme

Currently competing in the 2012 European Le Mans Series,  JMW Motorsport’s racing driver James Walker this week took time out of his busy schedule to visit his old school and give an inspirational talk to Trent Sixth Form students, provoking thought and discussion as to their own career choices.

James, who in recent weeks was crowned European Champion, is originally from Jersey.  He boarded at Trent College during 1999-2001 to study for his A Levels and it was during this time he found the courage to seek out his dream career to become a British Racing Driver, having no previous experience.

Speaking to a packed lecture theatre, James gave some great advice to students, encouraging them to embrace these final years at Trent.  “My two years at Trent were the most important" James told students “Trent offered me the opportunity to study, whilst at the

same time pursuing my dream job, so the chance to come back today and tell my story and

pass on my  techniques for achieving success to you all is really exciting”. years of my life so far.  They played a key part in my future, dictating where my career started”.

His final words to students, quoting Winston Churchill were “Find a job you love, and you will never work again”.
