IT Helpdesk and Administration Support

Founded in 1866 Trent College is a leading HMC co-educational day and boarding school on the edge of Nottingham set in forty two acres of parkland. In addition to the Senior School there is a thriving Junior School including a Nursery, The Elms. There are approximately 1150 pupils on campus from the age of six weeks to eighteen years.

Line Manager: Director of Information Systems

Hours: This position is a one-year contract running from 22nd August 2018 to the end of the 2018/2019 school year in July 2019. This is a term time only role encompassing 8 hours a day, five days a week. 

Role Profile: You will be working within the IT Services department providing 1st line telephone and at desk support to teachers and students across Trent College and The Elms Nursery & Junior School. You will be the first point of contact both in the office and at the end users location across our large campus. Good communication, a positive outlook, and a strong interest in all aspects of technology are essential.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • To provide a point of contact for the IT Services department both in the office and by telephone.
  • To provide basic technical support to both employees and students for issues including but not limited to:
  • Logging on to network computers.
  • Basic use of Microsoft Windows.
  • Basic use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Adding, selecting, and basic fault diagnosis for printers.
  • Logging and provision of printer supplies.
  • Assistance connecting personal devices (phones, laptops) to the school Internet and email system.
  • Assistance using a computer with classroom audio and projection equipment.
  • To help maintain asset and support information (databases and documentation) to a high degree of detailed accuracy.

Essential skills and experience

  • Personal initiative and time management.
  • Good personal communication skills and telephone manner.
  • The ability to work closely within a small team.
  • Problem solving and research skills.
  • A conscientious and meticulous approach to entering and maintaining data information.
  • Experience using the Microsoft Windows operating system (version 7 and later) including simple configuration through the control panel.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word

On the job training will be provided for the successful applicant so lots of enthusiasm and the ability to pick things up quickly are the most important personal traits.

Outline salary and benefits

  • Salary will be the national minimum wage.
  • A contributory pension scheme is available along with use of school leisure facilities, free onsite parking, and free lunch in the school dining facility.
