WHOLE SCHOOL PROGRAMME 2007-2008
In 2000, the Sixth Form Programme was introduced as the central vision and format for academic extension,
lectures, societies and activities. The events have proven to be highly successful and our students during these
years have acted as impressive ambassadors and hosts to many distinguished visitors at the dinners and
events. Many students have had significant opportunities in terms of making important career and university
decisions as well as quite a number being able to pursue impressive work opportunities through the events of
the Programme. Now as we unroll the The Whole School Programme across all year groups. The School is delighted to be hosting many highly successful people and, in particular, some who have observed or contributed to policy at the heart of government such as General The Lord Guthrie and commentator Michael Cockerell.
Now in each Tier we have a tailored programme which meets the needs of each age range. The Sixth Form Tier
programme follows much the same pattern with Full Lectures, Choice Lectures and Dinners. The Academic
Forum welcomes students who have proven themselves academically and have their own events: I will write to
Year 12 and 13 students who have successfully gained a place and I will welcome meetings with any others
who are very keen to prove themselves. Membership is an important way of leading the school in its academic
endeavours. The Main School will now have their own termly Full lectures and a series of Choice Lectures for
each student to sign up to each term. There will be opportunities to attend dinners with the 6th Form when we
are hosting speakers. The Lower School will have a range of lectures and events on curriculum time across the
year.
The 6th Form Committee will lead the School Programme and give support in running all events with the Director of the School Programme: they are joined at the Whole school programme & events Committee by representatives from every year group in the school: the Committee will lead all events but also look to follow initiatives which provide activity for students, especially new societies and activities in the Main School.
It is hoped that all students of all ages will find the School Programme to be exciting, challenging and a great help in developing their minds and aspirations – a broad and high-quality educational programme which will stay with each student for life. All our speakers are highly successful, some famous, some distinguished and at the top of their professions and others will show how they have taken important decisions to get them to where they are at the age of 25 or 35. Tutors will talk through the programme choices with you so you make an informed decision in signing up to the lectures and events (the card indicates how many Choice Lectures should be chosen in the MS and 6th Form)
