Students Meet the Archbishop of Canterbury
Staff and students from Trent College have met with the Head of the Church of England as part of their Religious Studies A Level course.
The meeting took place earlier this month during a Religious Studies conference in London, held at Church House, the headquarters of the Church of England. The huge interest in the conference, at which 90 schools were represented, meant that Trent College were only able to send five Year 13 students and the School Chaplain, Rev. Tim Haggis.
The speakers for the day were Professor Elaine Graham of Chester University, the Rev Richard Cole, curate of St. Paul’s, Knightsbridge, professional broadcaster and former keyboard player with the Communards, and His Grace, the Most Reverend Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury. The theme for the event was ‘What does faith mean for society today?’, and each school had to produce an A1 poster relating their A Level studies to this theme. Students had the opportunity to question and take part in lively discussions with the speakers on various topics, including Archbishop Rowan, gaining valuable experience and inspiration to use in their lessons at school.
