Development Plans

Development of library facilities at Trent College
After a period of development and research, plans for the new library which will occupy Trent's old dining room, are now well under way. First sketches of possible layouts have been submitted by David Franklin of Franklin Ellis Architects in Nottingham.

Involved in this process has been the whole Trent community: students, teaching and support staff, professional library designers and staff from other academic libraries.

The results of a Library Needs Questionnaire have indicated strong preferences which will form the basis for further planning:

Trent's new library needs to be multi-functional.
We are a large and diverse community and want a library that will be used by everyone, including students from all years, teaching and support staff.

Trent's new library needs to support the learner of the 21st Century.
We intend to use the very latest technology in our new library whilst at the same time facilitating a lifelong love of literature and learning.

Trent's new library needs to be in-keeping with the traditions of the school.
Trent is proud of its history and we want to preserve the beauty of the old dining room by keeping several of its features.

Trent's new library needs to have a strong design.
We as a community want our new library to make a bold statement about the commitment of the school and staff to learning and academic achievement. Rather than just a functional space, the new library needs to be imaginative and visually engaging.

The next steps in this exciting development include a detailed structural survey to determine building requirements and to work out a timescale.
