Extra-curricular Music

The school has a strong musical tradition, with over 500 instrumental lessons being taught each week and there are orchestras, bands, choirs and ensembles at all levels.

In addition to the May Hall, where major concerts are held, we have a recital room and fifteen practice rooms in the Music School. A new music technology suite, recording studio, and a Sixth Form listening and study area complete these excellent facilities.

We recently took a Mozart opera and the Swing Band to Amsterdam, and a choir performed a series of concerts in Georgia. We regularly stage musicals together with the drama department - in 2004 pupils from our Junior School (The Elms) joined students from Trent in a memorable performance of the Wizard of Oz.

The highlight of our year is the traditional Strawberries Concert held in the Marquee at the end of the Summer Term, where senior students are invited to entertain family and friends with a (very!) wide range of musical performances.

In October, we invite Year 6 pupils from local primary schools to join us for a day of "Making Music". In the afternoon, parents, family and friends are entertained to a short concert with a variety of pieces which are then recorded onto a CD, presented to each participant.
