ISI Inspection Report 2004

Years 7 and 8
Aim:
The aim in the Lower School is to provide a balanced education in a wide range of subjects, which are taught by specialists from each Department. At the same time it is the intention to
instill high personal standards within the pupils and to develop academic self-motivation and intellectual curiosity.

Subjects: Both Years 7 and 8 study a common curriculum which comprises the following subjects: English, Mathematics,
Science, Spanish, Geography, History, Art, Design & Technology, Drama, Information Literacy, Music, and Physical Education.

In addition Year 8 pupils opt for either French or German as an additional
Modern
Foreign Language.

Year 9
Aim:
The aim in Year 9 is to maintain a balanced curriculum taught by specialists whilst also continuing to build upon the key areas targeted in the Lower School. Subjects: English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Spanish, French or German, Geography, History, Religious Studies, Design

Years 10 and 11
Aim: At this level the aim is for the pupils to specialise academically by reducing the number of subjects studied. Whilst maintaining a core structure the pupils are provided with a free choice when selecting their subjects
. Careful guidance is given to ensure that the pupils select a sensible balance between Humanities, Languages and Sciences and to take account of the possible effects on careers.

Subjects: A core curriculum is provided, which comprises the following: English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Information Technology, Religious Studies and Physical Education. The pupils then opt for six subjects from the following: Art, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Design & Technology (Resistant Materials), Design & Technology (Electronic Products), Drama, French, Geography, German, History, Music, Physics, and Spanish. In addition they will undertake a General Studies Programme in Year 12 , which will provide the students with the opportunity to prepare for the next stage of education at the same time as being introduced to a wide range of general topics and also learning important skills for the future.
