Students from Trent College regularly gain national and regional success in a range of subjects. Congratulations to the recent winners below.
LAMDA Examination Results 2006 – Congratulations to all 69 Trent students who passed, with 29 students gaining a Distinction, with a mark above 80%, and 25 students gaining a Merit.
Nicola Whiffin (Year 12) was awarded a Gold Medal at Grade 8 level, while Rohan Desai (Year 7) gained the highest mark of 92%.
Target 2.0 Competition - The Bank of England and The Times have launched the 2005-2006 “Target Two Point Zero Interest Rate Challenge”, a competition for schools and colleges. Target 2.0 gives teams of students aged between 16 and 18 the chance to take on the role of the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee, assess economic conditions and the outlook for inflation and tell panels of judges what interest rate they would set to achieve the Government's inflation target of 2.0 per cent.
The Trent team consisted of 5 Year 13 Economics students – Jake Fox, Harriette Newcombe, Sarah Hammond, Jon Brown and Jon Heard. Their regional heat was on November 28 th 2005, where they presented their decision on the base rate to the panel of judges.
Congratulations to the Team on coming second! They were each presented with a Bank of England clock as a memento.
United Kingdom Maths Trust Senior Challenge - The UKMT Senior Challenge took place in November 2005. Trent’s 12 candidates achieved the following excellent results:
Gold Certificate Tristan Melen
Silver Certificate Simon Colver, Nicola Whiffin
Bronze Certificate Jake Fox, Kiran Joshi, Andrew Webster-Noble
Tristan Melen also qualifies for the first round of the prestigious British Mathematical Olympiad.

LAMDA 2005 - 25 pupils and students were involved including:
3 Grade 8 Gold Medals – Miriam Wright, Frances Poletti, and Siobhan Curtis
Kate Baylis and Michael Webster who at 82% achieved the highest marks at Distinction in the centre, with Reading for Performance at Grade 6 and 5 respectively.
All 25 students had good passes with 5 Distinctions and 12 Merits

Associated Board Examinations
38 students took associated board music exams. All passed, with 5 with distinction, 15 with merit. Grade 7 & 8 passes included:

United Kingdom Mathematics Trust Intermediate Challenge 2005 -
113 pupils from Years 9, 10 and 11 took part - 7 pupils were awarded a Gold Certificate, 15 a Silver Certificate and 23 were awarded a Bronze Certificate.
Congratulations to all those who received certificates, with special mention to those receiving Gold awards:
Nicola Whiffin (Best in School), James Cox, Mitchell Mycock, Felicity Dunbar, Amelia Chappell, Josh Culverwell, Daniel Eckloff. Nicola, James, Mitchell and Daniel all performed so well that they were invited to the follow-on round of the Pink Kangaroo event of the International Mathematics’ Olympiad.
United Kingdom Mathematics Trust Challenge - Of our 88 entries in Year 7 and 8, in the Summer Term 2005, we received 5 Gold, 11 Silver and 28 Bronze certificates. Congratulations to all those who received a certificate.

Nottingham Festival of Chemistry – 24th May 2005 - This year Trent was represented by Louise Sun (8X), Jessica Egan (8X), Liam Dodd (8W) and Rajpal Bhandal (8Z)
They competed in a Salters Chemistry Competition at Nottingham Trent University in their chemistry labs.
Although they were not successful in winning a prize they had a very enjoyable day, gained valuable University experience and represented Trent wonderfully. |
