The Trent College Arboretum is among of the best in the East Midlands and one of the best school arboretums in the country. The collection is renowned for its attractive spinneys set around the games fields of the school. The arboretum contains several hundred trees belonging to about 200 species and cultivars. Other arboretums in our area include Nottingham Arboretum and Nottingham University, Derby Arboretum, Elvaston Castle, Darley Park in Derby, Evington near Leicester and Bluebell at Smisby, near Ashby-de-la-Zouch. All arboretums contain species from all over the world. About 35 species of tree are thought to be native to Britain.
About 30 of the trees in the Trent College Arboretum are rare, most of these are in one particular spinney called The OT Spinney, named after former members of the Trent College community, The Old Tridents, .
The arboretum is a private collection but tours may be arranged by contacting Mr. David Pinney, formerly Head of Biology at Trent College. Tel: 0115 877 9669 e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org .
