This field day, pupils from the Nature Conservation service activity went to Alsop en le Dale, near Ashbourne. The day's project was to thin an area of woodland and clear overhanging trees from a cutting on the Tissington trail.
The trunks and branches were stacked to make a habitat for insect-life. The remaining wood was disposed of on a fire, which the students used to cook baked potatoes and bananas and custard with, much to everyone’s delight. It was a positive and enriching experience for the group who worked very well together on this pleasant Spring day.
