Cameron Fraser in Year 8 is among the many pupils at Trent excelling in various sporting and arts related hobbies. He has just returned from a Mini Moto race practice trip in Spain!
Mini Moto's are minature motorbikes, usually less than 50 cm high and 1 m long. Maximum speed varies between 19 to 40 mph.
Below, Cameron has written an account of his trip.
On the 4th of March 2012 I went to Spain with my Dad to do a week of racing practice. This was the first time I had raced outside of England. The track I raced at was called Finestrat, it is a karting track but bikes can use it as well. The hotel we stayed at was called the Grand Hotel Bali, it is in Benidorm on the South coast of Spain and only 5 minutes away from the track. On the 5th of March it was the first day of racing, it was intense because we were being watched and were racing with a professional racer called Scott Redding. He races in a world championship called Moto2. For more information about him here is a link http://www.scott-redding45.co.uk/. The reason I went to Spain was in preporation for the Junior British championship in Mini Motos. Mini Motos are a small 40cc two-stroke engine bike. My first race in the Championship starts on the 23rd of March in Wales, and ends in October, later in the year.
Whilst I was in Spain, I also had a chance to put my Spanish into practice, they spoke very fast so it was hard to understand everything they were saying but I enjoyed trying!
The days were very long and tiring but at the end of the week I would like to think that I improved. I enjoyed myself greatly and I hope it has improved my chances of winning the races I am entering this year.
Congratulations Cameron and good luck in your forthcoming competitions!
