At age 13 pupils enter Main School. From Monday to Friday, pupils follow a timetable of lessons and games until 4.15pm, whilst on Saturdays a morning of academic work precedes an afternoon of sport.
The maximum size of a class is 24 and in many classes there are fewer pupils. The aim in year 9 is to maintain a balanced curriculum taught by specialists. In years 10 and 11 the pupils are provided with a free choice when selecting their GCSE subjects, whilst maintaining a core curriculum.
For pastoral care, pupils are looked after by a Head of Year, assisted by a team of tutors. Year groups benefit both pupils and tutors, with the Head of Year and tutor team remaining with the Year group for the entire three years in Main School. After lessons end at 4.15pm, pupils may study in a supervised area or join in an activity.
In each Year Area, there are common room areas and lockers for storing books, stationery and possessions such as games kit and outdoor clothing. Year Areas are supervised from 8.15am until 6.00pm, and after 4.30pm pupils may study quietly or join an activity, chosen with their tutors' guidance.
Personal tutors liaise between home and School, monitor progress and encourage their tutees to take advantage of the many opportunities offered to them.
Each pupil belongs to one of 4 Teams and proudly wears their Team tie Cavendish, Hanbury, Kemp and Wright, each run by a Team Leader, and activities are organised on Fridays after school to encourage inter-team rivalry!
There are two Boarding Houses in Main School - Bates House for girls and Shuker House for boys. Many pupils opt to change status from day to boarding at this stage, while the fourteen new pupils joining Trent at Year 9 are predominantly boarders. |
