"The Lower School allowed James to adjust easily to the move to the bigger school"

Lower School Parent

All teaching occurs within the specialist facilities of individual subject departments in class sizes of not more than twenty four, ensuring individual attention and effective learning. Lower School pupils are closely guided by their form tutors, who regularly see their own form for morning registration and for form time activity.

The Lower School has its own site (see Campus Map), which provides special indoor and outdoor facilities. The building contains form rooms with recreation areas and a base where books and other belongings are stored. Also found within the Lower School building are offices for the Head of Lower School and other senior staff, ensuring that there is close adult supervision at appropriate times.

Children are supervised from
8.15am to 6.00pm if required. Timetabled lessons finish at 4.15pm when pupils are free to go home or stay until 6.00pm. Those who wish to stay, for whatever reason, have an opportunity to do homework under supervision in their own form rooms or to follow one of their chosen activities.

Unlike the
Main School and Sixth Form there are no timetabled lessons on Saturday mornings; the Lower School follows a five-day curriculum from Monday until Friday. Most matches against other schools take place on Wednesday afternoons, although there is a small number on Saturdays.
