All libraries actively encourage reading for pleasure and learning and organise events to promote a positive attitude towards books and reading. We recognise the need for supporting independent learning in order to create happy and life-long learners.

The Upper and Lower Elms Libraries

  • hold a variety of fiction and non-fiction items, which can be borrowed freely
  • are sometimes used for teaching
  • operate the Bookworm scheme, which encourages reading

The Warner Library

  • was built by pupils in 1929
  • contains about 6500 books, fiction, non-fiction and reference materials and has nine networked computer terminals
  • has a growing collection of audio visual materials that can be borrowed
  • is used for teaching whole classes, particularly in Lower School
  • is also used for independent learning by the pupils during lunchtime and after school
  • uses a fingerprint scanner for identification which is the latest technology and eliminates the need for library cards
  • houses the School Bookshop where pupils can purchase books or redeem reward vouchers
  • is staffed from 9:00 until 18:00 by qualified and dedicated library staff

The Main School Work Area

  • was opened in September 2005 to give Main School Pupils their own work area
  • is equipped with 24 networked computer stations with printing facilities
  • includes a classroom area with a/v facilities
  • has a quiet study area
  • holds a collection of books to buy or to borrow
  • operates a book ordering service for any stock item from Warner Library or Wortley Resources Centre
