Young Engineers - Gold Crest Award

On Thursday 24th April 4 of Trent’s aspiring young engineers celebrated a day at Loughborough University’s Henry Ford College. The team of Harrison Mycroft, Ben Slater, James Dexter and Adam Pinkstone designed a leakage test rig for aircraft hoses manufactured by Meggitt Polymer Solutions in Shepshed. The team completed a detailed project report and a thorough presentation to a board of industry experts qualifying them for the EES award and the Gold Crest Award (Science and Technology).

“We were asked to design and make a test rig for a range of hoses to enable Meggitt Polymer Solutions to record the leak rate of the hose under certain test pressures.  The current system is labour-intensive and the company wants to reduce the time taken for the testing process, enabling the hoses to be certified more effectivelt,” said Harrison Mycroft.

The scheme is part of the Engineering Development Trust, which aims to stimulate young people’s interest in science, engineering and technology.
