From Year 9 onwards, each single sex Boarding House is run by residential staff. Bates House is home to girls who board in Years 9, 10 and 11, while Shuker House accommodates 60 boys aged 13-18. Blake House for boys and Martin House for girls are exclusively Sixth Form Boarding Houses. (See Campus Map for locations)
The accommodation is modern and well furnished with pupils starting off in spacious shared bedrooms, and then progressing to university style single study bedrooms when they are in the Upper Sixth, where all students have filtered direct access to the Internet.
All boarding pupils are supervised during the evening, while they complete their prep in their study bedrooms. Pupils have access to a range of facilities on the site, including the ICT suites, the Astroturf, the library, the swimming pool and music rooms. Within each House there are common room areas, with television, video, DVD and CD players.
Martin House..............................................Top
Martin House is first and foremost a community that works together. As young adults preparing for life away from home, students are given increasing levels of responsibility and space to grow within a safe and supportive environment. Evenings include time for prep in individual or shared study bedrooms or in the ICT suites, followed by time for relaxation. A variety of events are organised according to the interests and enthusiasms of the girls. A passion for chocolate is essential!
Main School Girls Boarding - Bates House
Bates House is home to up to 20 Main School girls during term time, and strikes a balance between having a structured environment to maximise academic potential, a relaxed and informal atmosphere in which to relax, and a close-knit community, helping the girls to feel that they are part of a house family.
Current girls represent the school on the Games field, on stage, and in concerts and choirs, which is made more easily achievable by eliminating their daily commute to school.
Bates offers girls the opportunity to develop social skills outside of their own year group, and all organised house activities from theme nights to fancy dress nights, art evenings to aerobics, involve all of the girls and encourages them to forge strong friendships with others whom they might not have had the opportunity to get to know outside of the boarding experience.....................................................Top
Sixth Form Boys Boarding in Blake House
Blake House, the Senior Boys second home for two years whilst studying towards their A2 examinations, affords the 34 fortunate applicants the privilege of living, working and socialising in an environment that prepares them for life beyond the school gates.
Academic success is inevitably top of the priorities list but there are ample opportunities also for the individual to develop on a dramatic, musical and sporting level as well. Current students are aiming their futures in a wide variety of spheres ranging from architects to the armed forces, the teaching profession to medicine and dentistry. Socially the students are encouraged to make their own entertainment and Friday nights are looked forward to by all. Fund raising for charity plays a huge part in their social diary, with over £6,000 being collected in five years on behalf of a variety of causes. If all this appeals, then book an appointment to find out for yourself whether you can be the next students to make ‘THE TEAM WORK’.
Shuker House
............................................Top
Shuker House is a traditional single-sex boarding house for boys aged 13-18. Approximately fifty boys live in the original Trent building dating back to 1868. Recently refurbished, the house has excellent, modern facilities that facilitate a homely atmosphere. Boys in Year 9 will share rooms, but by Year 11 all boys will be in single accommodation. The centrally located well-equipped common rooms, provide a focal point for both relaxation and socialisation.
All boys are tutored within the house, and both Housemaster and Assistant Housemaster are resident. This serves to reinforce a family atmosphere and fosters a closeness of relations between pupil, parents and staff.
Shuker boarders spend their working week at Trent, but the house is flexible at weekends and also to accommodate for those with regular weekly commitments. Shuker boarders make a large contribution to the life of Trent and throughout the calendar year they enjoy activities in the evenings, weekend trips, social events and are able to access Trent’s excellent facilities beyond the end of the normal school day.............................................Top
