An education at Trent College goes far beyond the classroom, with extra-curricular activities from scuba diving to website design and from the CCF to Young Enterprise. Inspectors called the programme "excellent" in its range and quality.

The ISI Inspection Report recognised that the school's "extra-curricular programme is of excellent quality, offering pupils a wide range of activities."

Lower School (Years 7 and 8) pupils attend at least three weekly activities each term, guided by their form tutor, encouraging them to try pursuits which they may not have experienced before. These range from web site design, fencing, lacrosse, scuba diving and creative dance to girls' rugby, community action, logic puzzles and football.

In the Main School (Years 9, 10 and 11) additional activities are offered, including sculpture, badminton and golf. Pupils also choose a Service Activity where they contribute either to the local or School community, by visiting elderly and infirm people, Life Saving, podcasting, nature conservation or photography.

In Year 10 pupils join the Combined Cadet Force (CCF), where they develop skills of leadership, discipline and self-reliance and have the opportunity to work towards the Duke of Edinburgh's Bronze Award.

In the Sixth Form, many of the activities are organised by the students themselves: for example, managing a portfolio on the stock market, Young Enterprise and coordinating science visits for visiting Junior Schools.

The School's Extension Programme provides a wealth of opportunities for all students, including an extensive lecture programme, debates, mock law cases and student presentations.
