Giving

Part of the Trent College culture is learning to contribute to the wider community - locally, nationally and worldwide - through activities to support charities.

In 2007/08, over £20,000 was raised towards local, national and international causes including: Rainbows Hospice, Treetops Hospice, Padley Centre, Framework, Cancer Research UK, Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, Children in Need, Comic Relief, Wheels-4-Life, Operation Christmas Child, Turn on the Tap, Kenyan School.

Every year pupils and staff identify the charities they will support throughout the year (some of these we regularly raise funds for, others change according to the needs and interests identified at a particular time). Our charity 'giving' is via a tremendous range of activities throughout the year, notably: Children In Need Day (boarding houses alone typically raise around £10,000 every year through activities such as running marathons, swimming 'the Channel', cycling the distance of the Tour de France), Harvest Thanksgiving (huge range of produce donated by boarders and day pupils), World Aids Day (a variety of fund raising activities and a lunch of rice and bread - which alone saves around £700 for this worthy cause), Year 12 Charity Day (the last Monday of the School year is given over to our Year 12 organising a range of fun activities for the Elms and Trent College pupils and parents).

In addition to these events there are one-off initiatives organised by pupils and staff to raise money for, and awareness of, causes they are passionate about.

A thorough preparation for life
