Caring

Outstanding pastoral care at Trent starts with a residential experience for all new pupils in Year 7 and continues throughout a student's career with a tutor system which nurtures their academic ability, personal qualities and their contribution to community life. A continuing commitment to boarding, with a full curriculum and outstanding pastoral care, gives Trent its distinctive ethos.

Outstanding Pastoral Care is at the heart of what we are at Trent and aims to build a fruitful three-way relationship between pupil, staff and parents. Year 7 pupils joining Trent participate in our orientation programme, which supports them emotionally as they make the transition from their junior school into Trent. A short Residential Course, one of the highlights of this programme, occurs just one week into their Trent career: pupils are afforded the opportunity, through a variety of adventurous, cultural and artistic pursuits, to establish friendships in their first few days, to get to know each other better and to start developing a sense of identity within their teaching forms. Over the two days pupils have the opportunity to tackle a selection of physical and creative challenges. Throughout the weekend pupils are accompanied by their tutor and the prefect who will be linked to their form during the year.

Our pastoral system ensures every pupil at Trent gets support and guidance to keep them fully involved in school life and that they are happy in the process. Its aim is to safeguard the welfare of every member of our community and to nurture the academic ability, the emotional competency, confidence and integrity of every individual so they can benefit fully from their time at Trent.

The close relationship between tutors and their small number of tutees, all from the same year group, is its most important element. Tutees see their tutor every day. The tutor also maintains close communication with home, and plays a pivotal role in the delivery of our PSHE programme, helping to prepare our pupils for a full and purposeful role in the School and the wider community.

A thorough preparation for life
