All libraries actively encourage reading for pleasure and learning, and organise events to promote a positive attitude towards books and reading. We recognise the need for supporting independent learning in order to create happy and life-long learners.

The Elms Library
- was purpose built and opened in 2008
- holds a variety of fiction and non-fiction items, including audio books which can be borrowed freely
- is equipped to support every key stage and every subject taught at The Elms
- has 8 networked PCs which pupils can access during lessons
- actively promotes and encourages reading for pleasure through a variety of activities and events, including the Bookworm Scheme.
- supports the teaching of Information Literacy and enables children to develop good information skills
- has differentiated materials for different reading levels
- is used for teaching during lessons, and after school for supervised homework
- is open to all children at lunch and break
- provides story times for all children
- is staffed continuously during the day by qualified and dedicated library staff
The Warner Library
- was built by pupils in 1929
- contains about 8,000 books, fiction, non-fiction and reference materials, with 9 networked computer terminals
- has a comprehensive collection of audio visual materials that can be borrowed
- supports the school's curriculum throughout Key stages 3 and 4
- is also used for independent learning and recreational reading by pupils during lunchtime and after school
- provides study support for students during free periods and after school
- publishes a set of materials for students, teachers and parents to encourage reading for pleasure
- plays an active part in teaching Information Literacy, helping all students to develop good information skills when using printed and online materials
- uses a fingerprint scanner for identification which is the latest technology and eliminates the need for library cards
- houses the School Bookshop where pupils can purchase books or redeem reward vouchers
- is staffed from 0820 until 1740 by qualified and dedicated library staff
The Wortley Resources Centre
- is a dedicated Sixth Form area, opened in 1999
- holds about 5,000 books, including a large fiction section, which can be borrowed
- has 30 networked computer stations
- photocopying and printing services available
- holds a large collection of magazines and newspapers
- is staffed throughout the day
