We are keen to foster an environment where all students are encouraged to achieve the best grades of which they are capable and to stimulate their desire to gain knowledge and confidence, enabling them to develop initiative, leadership and communication skills.
We achieve good results by providing:
Baseline Testing
Trent College takes part in the baseline testing programme organised by Durham University. In Year 7, pupils take the MidYIS test. Pupils are also tested again in Years 8 and 9 to give us a more complete picture. The results of these tests are used to help us identify pupils’ academic potential and monitor how well they are fulfilling this. The tests can also help us identify any pupils who may need support for learning challenges such as dyslexia.
In Year 10, pupils take the Yellis test. The results help academic departments identify GCSE potential and monitor pupils’ progress towards the best grades they can achieve.
In the Sixth Form the Alis test is used to indicate A and AS potential and again help us monitor students’ progress. At both GCSE and A-level we are able to determine the ‘value added’ which Trent College has been able to provide as this gives much better evidence of the quality of teaching and learning within the school than raw results League Tables which take no account of ability.
