An integral part of the role the Development & Alumni Office has is to support the dedicated work of the school’s Careers Department, in assisting pupils and young alumni with their career aspirations by identifying members of our alumni community who are willing to share their experience.  This is one of the most rewarding ways to give back to your school and share with fellow alumni.  Whether it be a year group talk, one to one interview practice or the offer of a work experience placement, you can inspire the next generation to prepare for their future.

Career talks

Sharing your experience and sector knowledge provides an invaluable insight for pupils from which they can learn and explore. Talks are hosted virtually and in person, usually at lunchtime or at the end of the school day (16:15 – 17:30), during the Michaelmas and Lent terms and can involve a whole year group or a career interest audience of varying ages.

Work Experience

In a recent survey, two thirds of employers said that they look for graduates with relevant work experience because it helps them prepare for work and develop general business awareness.  Work experience during a pupil’s time at Trent can have a significant impact on how they plan their future pathway and the support of Old Tridents can be of significant benefit at this crucial time. Placements can be from one day up to a full week (or more if agreed between pupil and OT).

Networking

‘What’s My Line?’ is an annual careers networking evening, which has become a highlight in the careers event calendar. Old Tridents network in quick-fire interviews, inspiring the pupils and sparking their imaginations as they explore a wide variety of careers, some they may not have considered and others they’ve not even heard of. As well as sharing your own interests and career pathway with pupils, this is an opportunity for networking with other OT delegates.
