At Trent we operate a three tier structure, starting with the Lower School (Years 7 and 8), leading into the Main School (Years 9, 10 and 11) and followed by the Sixth Form. Under the guidance of a Head of Tier, each tier has its own pastoral system, where pupils have their own tutor, and its own designated location on the campus, to enable the environment to be adapted to meet the changing requirements of maturing young people
Our main points of admission into Trent College reflect the tiered system, with entry at age 11, 13 and 16.

The aim in the Lower School is to provide a balanced education in a wide range of subjects, which are taught by specialists from each department. At the same time it is the intention to instil high personal standards within the pupils and to develop academic self-motivation and intellectual curiosity.

Here the aim is to build upon the key areas targeted in the Lower School, before specialising in nine GCSE subjects. Careful guidance is given to ensure that the pupils select a sensible balance and to take account of the possible effect on careers.

It is hoped that at this stage of their education the students will consolidate the School's overall academic aims of developing self-motivation, intellectual curiosity and high personal standards.
